Hi Allene:

Perhaps your audience is not aware of the original data on bio-engineered food. When industry received permission to alter the tomato (so it would ship better for greater distances) nothing more was required of the industry in testing. All food from that point of approval of the tomato came under the same umbrella. Therefore, the industry is not required to submit anything for testing of proving of safety. You can protest all you want but it will fall on deaf ears. They have the approval from government and they are using it.

The data is available in the Federal Register. However, I do not know the date of the article and final rule at this moment. I would have to do some research through my papers to find it. Your group needs to obtain a copy of this Federal Register final rule and proceed from there to have a greater impact on the food industry. I believe it was published in 1990 or 1991.
