STORY IN "QUÉBEC" NEWSPAPER

My amputations, all fingers on both hands and both legs below the knee, are a result of Toxic Shock Syndrome. TSS is usually associated with tampon use. However, you can get it from any staph bacteria infection.

Its pretty rare, since its usually spotted and treated with antibiotics. There are a few cases of it because of the over use and misuse of antibiotics, which in effect make bacteria stronger. TSS is hard to spot, initially, because the symptoms are similiar to a flu. An infection that has made your blood toxic moves into a dangerous, and fatal, zone extremely fast.

The source of my infection was behind a saline breast implant that had been surgically placed less than a week before my roomates took me to the ER. When I arrived at the hospital, I had almost no blood pressure and my skin had the characteristic TSS rashes (which sort of resemble burns).

The firts few days, the doctors concentrad on finding the source of the infection; which was hidden in x-rays behind the implant. The weeks after, they concentratd on my major organds (breathing tube, dialysis). I was awake at this point and aware that my fingers and feet were dark purple. They started to remove my fingers in a series of surgeries, a little at a time.

My doctors realized that my kindneys, which failed for 15 days and then came back, would not be able to handle the dye they needed to inject in order to perform a surgery to blast out the blood clots in my legs. After swiching hospitals, I had my legs amputated in one surgery.

I moved to a rehab hospital, and after about 8 weeks of healing, was fitted for prosthetics.. The first oines I walked on were not very technically advanced; simle pelite sockets on sach feet. They squeezed my knees and barely fit under my pants. I now wear suction liners with flex feet.

There is many women in this situation but dont want to talk!

One is death with breast amputated.

One a breast amputated and fingers.

It is just the beginning!
