, Please Post For All: 10/7/98 Martinez Dow Chemical Co. has agreed to settle a $23 million lawsuit that accused the company of allowing contaminated water from its Pittsburgh plant to flow into the Sacramento River Delta. The suit was filed by BayKeeper, a San Francisco-based environmental group, which said Dow violated the state's Clean Water Act by allowing the pollution. The Delta provides drinking water for many residents of the eastern portion of Contra Costa County and elsewhere in the state Dow has owned the waterfront site about 40 miles east of San Francisco since 1938.The act, known as Proposition 65, permits damages to be awarded for each day a listed chemical enters drinking-water supplies.
