C'est en ce moment la responsabilité de nos gouvernements de protéger la santé de la collectivité. Les soins santé. La recherche indépendante et publique. La promotion sans contrôle de services médicaux pour fin d'esthétique avec insertion d'implants permanents s'avère incompatible avec la responsabilité des gouvernements en ce qui à la santé publique. L'utilisation de ces technologies pour fin d'esthétique multiplie les dépenses publiques suite aux réactions et aux défaillances de ces instruments défectueux.
L'usage et la promotion de ces technologies qui ne sont pas à point sont des violations du code de Nuremberg. Elles sont également une source importante de morbidité. Tout citoyen a droit aux soins médicaux de base pour assurer sa santé. La recherche est essentielle, et la priorité de la recherche sur tout produit et instrument médical et produit , doit se poursuivre.
La dissipation de ressources publiques essentielles et limitées est également une violation des droits humains dans une société où les soins médicaux sont une responsabilité communautaire et gouvernementale. Info Implants Mammaires Inc. demande à nos gouvernements d'agir en urgence dans ce lourd dossier de santé. Nous voulons un avenir en santé.

It is at this moment the responsability of our governments to protect the healt of the collectivity : The health’s care. The independant and public research. The promotion without control of medical’s services for the esthetic with insert of permanent implants is been proved incompatible with the government’s responsability of the public health. The service of the technologies for usage of esthetic increase the public spending further at the reactions and failures of the defectives instruments.
The usage and promotion of this technology witch aren't at the fine point, are the violation of Nuremberg Code. They are also one important base of morbidity. All citizen have a right to base medical cares to assume his health. The research is essential and the priority of this research on all product and medical instrument and product, should been continued the dispersion of the public essential and limited ressources and is also one breach of the human right in one society where the medical care are one communal and governmental responsability. Dear Sir:
It is imperative that funding be restored for Dr. Robert Guidoin’s research into the devastating effects of breast implants that was being conducted at Laval University. It is also imperative that funding be provided for further research into all aspects of the breast implant fiasco.
Recent publicity has stressed the results of the IOM report as proving that implants do not cause specific diseases and therefore are safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. The IOM report was a rehash of older reports that were sponsored and paid for by the manufacturers. While the reports did not prove that breast implants caused specific diseases they did not prove safety nor did they even say that implants were safe. No breast implant has been proven safe. We all remember how the cigarette manufacturers claimed that there was no proof that cigarette smoking was detrimental to a person’s health years ago.
There is ample evidence to prove that all types of breast implants can cause illness, anywhere from mild to severe. This evidence is either ignored by the manufacturers and plastic surgeons or they try to discredit it and the researchers. "Anecdodal", they cry, "junk science". The only real junk science appears in their reports.
The manufacturers claim that the women are greedy and are egged on by even more greedy lawyers. The lawyers would not be involved if there was not solid evidence. The reality is that the women have become so ill that they cannot work. The ones who do not have supportive husbands or other family must rely on disability pensions and welfare. These women are not only losing their health but also their jobs, husbands, homes, and dignity.
It is time to end this disaster. Soy oil implants that were being tried on an experimental basis were removed from the market after they were found to be dangerous. Women who had them were encouraged to have them explanted. The time has come to ban all breast implants until such time as they are proven safe and to stop using women as guinea pigs for the fun and profit of manufacturers and plastic surgeons.
Most of all, it is time to support the women, children, and families whose lives have been destroyed by these insidious instruments of pain and illness. They are not life saving devices. They are strictly cosmetic no matter what the reason for implantation. Women who have a mastectomy because of cancer or the fear of cancer do not need a further attack on their immune system.
Some people say that the women asked for what happened to them. The truth is, they were told that implants were inert and could not possibly cause disease and that the implants would last for a lifetime. That was a lie. The women’s only sin was a desire to look better, to feel better about themselves, or to be admired. Surely, this does not deserve a life sentence.
We realize that there are many things that deserve research money but many of them can easily get corporate support. The breast implant issue is not a popular one. Government funding is our only hope. Please listen to the cries of distress coming from every corner of our country. We need action now from you whom we have elected to protect our health.

It is indeed an honour and a privilege to write to you today.
Please give high regard to the information that Dr. Pierre Blais, Madame Micheline Lambert, and M. Tony Lambert will give you on May 31, 1999. The I.A.S. Implant Awareness Society holds them in high regard and it is a privilege for us to work with them.
The FDA’s Regulation of Silicone Breast Implants, a staff report to the U.S. Congress prepared by the Human Resources and Intergovernmental Relations Subcommittee, dated December 1992, states on page 29, "implants were likely to break after 7 years" and on the same page declares "Dow Corning scientists made repeated references to the lack of safety data".
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Breast Implants, An Information Update, issued December 1998, states on page 15, "recommended removal of all gel-filled implants preferably before 8 years of implantation". Then why are doctors and plastic surgeons encouraging a woman to keep them for many years? In my personal case, 21 years.
I have been talking to a very, very ill woman, 56 years of age, and her implants are 30 years old. I talk to sick women every week, and their implants are 20 years old and older.
Now, the soybean-oil implants that were being touted as the finest, have been totally recalled by the FDA and are now banned around the informed world.
The plastic surgeons and the manufacturers are running the show with their unbridled greed. A plastic surgeon can earn over one million dollars a year on breast implants alone!
The literature of the plastic surgeons in Canada states that saline implants are "safe and effective" Our society sees this in a printed folder that is given to every woman to sign as her "informed consent". This is so far from the truth.
The FDA has placed breast implants in category III as dangerous devices of unproved safety. They are in an "allowed classification" only because of the USA’s grandfathering clause, a clause that is not recognized or used in law in Canada.
The precautionary principal law was used in The United Kingdom to ban the soybean-oil implants. It is time that this very same principal be used in Canada. The USA, United Kingdom, and Canada are all supposed to abide by this law.
Let Québec lead the way and stop this violence committed against women and children in Canada every day.
It is an acknowledged fact that silicone from the Implant’s shell alone crosses the placenta, affecting the unborn fetus, this was proved in Dow’s own laboratories 30 years ago and in women in Sweden.
Why must we allow the greed of the manufacturers and plastic surgeons to dictate to our government to protect their massive incomes, pushing the disability and welfare payments to sick women into the millions. In the I.A.S. Implant Awareness Society, seven-eighths of our members are on some kind of social assistance.
Many young women of child bearing ages are being implanted. They are not being informed that these yet-to-be-approved, "safe" implants are recommended for replacements in the seventh or eighth year. Many sixteen-year-old women, mentioned in news reports from California, are being implanted today.
Please place a moratorium on all breast implants until total safety can be truly proved and documented. The time has come, enough is enough. We are working toward the same goals here in British Columbia. Please, let Québec lead the way for all of Canada.

We understand that you will be meeting with Dr. Robert Guidoin and Micheline and Tony Lambert regarding the issue of breast implants. We would like you to know that we support them one hundred per cent in their efforts to bring about changes to the justice system. We can no longer be complacent. If we just sit back and do nothing, there will be no changes for the betterment of our society. We would ask that you use your influential position to aid these good people in their efforts.
We also feel strongly that funding for the extremely important breast implant research activities being carried out by Dr. Guidoin must be continued. This wonderful man has dedicated an enormous amount of his own time to helping sick women.
Silicone breast implants are destroying our health-care system. I know this because I am one of the many women whose lives have been shattered by these faulty and deadly devices. We are so far behind on implant research here in Canada. In the United States, they are miles ahead of us. Why? We have a wonderful country and we have our share of talented researchers. Do not let plastic surgeons and chemical companies dictate to you! We are asking that you provide Dr. Guidoin with funding so that he can continue his critically important work. Also, please take the time to educate yourself on these devices; you will soon understand just how much harm they have caused. Thank you.
