lany25@webtv.netI just got back from Nicole's pro-implant site...and am sickened to learn that silicone implants are being implanted in women, again, without FDA regulations. They are being used in a ten-year "study" by a South American Company. Most of us are familiar with the inconsistency of these sort of "studies." I recently read about these "cohesive" gel implants in that the silicone is supposed to be much thicker and will not flow out of the implant, even when it is "sliced in half." I fear there will be another set of women who are severely poisoned in about five to ten years...just as we have been. Read this article by the plastic surgeon on Nicole's site.

For those of you who have emailed me about the Silimed implants: I just met with our Silimed rep and here are the details of their study. The patient must pay for their implants as they would for other implant manufacturers, however, the cost is much less (approx $600/pair for saline implants). The patient must also agree to return at periodic intervals and complete some follow-up paperwork. The patient gets paid $50 for each follow-up visit for a maximum of $650 over a ten year period. To me, the exciting part is this: the Silimed rep tells me that they will have cohesive silicone gel implants available for first time augmentation patients (no screwy government rules!)starting in one month. I can't wait! For those of you who are not familiar with Silimed, this is a Brazilian company that has been around for many years outside the U.S. and is now trying to break into the U.S. market. In order to do so, they need to gather data for their studies which will be submitted to the FDA for approval of their implants. Please email me if you have any questions.
