Vice President Al Gore set out on the presidential campaign trail on Monday in suburban St. Louis, blasting the domestic pharmaceutical industry for increases in the cost of prescription drugs -- and in the burgeoning population of senior citizens unable to keep up with those costs. Gore, the Democratic Party's hope for the presidency this election year, appeared in Clayton with House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt to promote Gore's $255 billion proposal to provide senior Americans with an insurance plan that would compensate them for their prescription drug costs.
OPPONENTS QUESTION CONSTITUTIONALITY OF SO-CALLED 'STEALTH PAC' LEGISLATION
Proponents of the so-called 527 campaign reform legislation that passed the Senate last week invoke a 1976 Supreme Court decision to provide legal justification for the campaign reform measure. But critics say the 527 legislation, which would force secretive political action committees to disclose their donors, would violate free speech and scare away potential donors from participating in the political process.
DIABETES
It's been called the biggest breakthrough in diabetes treatment since the discovery of insulin in 1922. Last month, researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine that eight diabetic patients had been able to stop taking injections for a year after transplantation of key pancreatic cells. These vital cells, called the islets of Langerhans, are scattered throughout the pancreas and produce the blood sugar-regulating hormones insulin and glucagon.
NEW RESEARCH SUPPORTS HEALTH BENEFITS OF RED WINE
Research scientists in North Carolina have announced discovery of how a chemical found in red wine helps to fight cancer.
I hope this information is helpful, an it has an impact on how you vote, in the up comming Presidental election, I'll be voting Democratic! We must balance the congress, and the house of representatives, I will voting to change those who represent me in Austin too. Many of the phaurmauctical companies made implants, and have had other dangerous products FDA approved. The pharmauctical companies have bought up labs, where your blood work does not come back, with the correct results showing silicone toxicity. I have spoken to many women, who had their blood sent to a labortaory, that did their blood work correctly. Their ANA showed positive, an other test results were out of the normal range, when their previous blood work work read normal. IMHO The pharmauciticual companies, have played a HUGH part, helping the manufactures esacpe their liabilities.... in this breast implant..lying fiasco! I remember who had ccontact, with some of the so called scientist on pointer's panel, an other places in this issue, the pharmaucitiucal companies stood to gain tremendously. I want a Democratic for President, representing my best interest, in the White House in the November elections. btw, spell check has not been reinstalled, my neurological damage has effected my spell'n real bad'r! I hope those of you who are diabetics, see that they are making tremendous head way, and soon we will see a cure for this disease. Some of my family members are diabetics, I watch for all news in this field, concerning each new advancement in this area. Please register to vote, if your not already registered, your vote can mean the difference in this years elections. Those of us living in Texas, have already been discriminated against, thanks to governor George Bush jr., the Lie-bush-a-rare-eeek was no mistake by Daddy George Bush! I like A & M, it's a tremendous college, an I am not putting down those who attended it. Peace, truth, and research now, gigi/Karen S. Lawrence
