Additional Applications of Bio-Oxidative Therapies

I am reading the above titled book, published in 1998, by Nathaniel Altman, and was shocked when I came to this section (below) of a chapter called Additional Applications of Bio-Oxidative Therapies. I would like to know if anyone on this group has heard of Dr. Stephen Edelson? Has anyone had any type of oxygen therapy (besides hyperbaric oxygen) such as ozone therapy, intraveneous hydrogen peroxide, rectal insufflations?

Please write to me if you have! I need to hear from you! "Silicone Induced Immune Dysfunction Syndrome Intravenous hydrogen peroxide has recently become an important element in the holistic treatment of silicone-induced immune dysfunction syndrome, a condition that is affecting a growing number of the estimated two million women who have received silicone breast implants since 1962. Although symptoms may not appear for years, this syndrome is believed to cause a wide variety of health problems, including hypersensitivity to food, chemicals, mold, and dust; fatigue; lung problems; anxiety and depression; elevated cholesterol; skin rashes; memory loss; and gastrointestinal problems. While silicone is not believed to be the only cause of those problems, some physicians consider it to be an important aspect of the total environmental load (including pollution, medications, and stress) that depress the body's overall immune response. At the Fifth International Conference on Bio-Oxidative Medicine in 1994, environmental medical specialist Stephen B. Edelson, MD, reported his clinical findings of patients suffering from this syndrome. He administered intravenous hydrogen peroxide one to two times weekly "with great success" as an adjunct to holistic medical therapy, including traditional medication, diet, nutrition, exercise, and other modalities.

He called hydrogen peroxide "very, very efficacious", particularly in treating pain and relieving symptoms of chronic fatigue. Dr. Edelson believes that bio-oxidative therapies like intravenous hydrogen peroxide are useful in treating patients with silicone-induced immune dysfunction syndrome in the following ways: 1. They improve oxidative phosphorylation (phosphorylase is an enzyme in the mitochondria, the source of energy in celss involved in protein synthesis and lipid metabolism). 2. They destroy old T-Cells, which are then replaced by new, healthier ones. This improves overall immune function. 3. They increase oxygen tissue tensions, making cells more resistant to oxidation. 4. They aid in hormonal regulation. 5. They aid in the regulation of neurotransmitters. 6. They stimulate enzyme systems. 7. They dilate the small arteries, thus improving blood circulation. 8. They may chemically disrupt the bonds in silicone polymer, making it more difficult for silicone to affect the body. Although more studies need to be made of the effects of bio-oxidative therapies on this growing health problem, Dr. Edelson's findings reveal the potential value of such therapies as part of a holistic approach to treating disease.
